We aim for all pupils to:
Develop a love of music and talent as a musician.
Compose and be musically creative alongside using their thoughts and understanding using musical terminology and notation in lessons.
Listen, evaluate and be exposed to a wide range of music from a variety of genres, cultures and periods, including live music.
Have the opportunity to perform and learn a musical instrument in class /year group/ whole school/ community events throughout their Our Lady of Lourdes journey.
Learn to sing and use their voices in order to build self-esteem and enable children to express themselves musically.
We achieve this by:
Introducing Chranga which is being implemented across the school. Music is taught weekly and the Charanga scheme of work is used from Year 1 - 6 to ensure a wide exposure to different genres of music, with lots of practical opportunities to explore and develop as musicians and singers.
Weekly whole school singing assemblies and daily singing in KS1 offer regular performance opportunities and exposure to a variety of songs and singing.
Children participate in performances: KS1 Christmas Play and End of Year 6 Performance.
Listening to a variety of genres whilst coming in and out of assemblies and within the classroom. By discussing this music the children can develop an understanding of feelings, emotions and their impact.
All children having the opportunity to learn an instrument.
