Term 2
Maths:
This term, Year 3 developed their understanding of multiplication and division using the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. They explored fractions of shapes and numbers, told the time to the nearest minute, and interpreted data using charts and graphs. In geometry, they identified shapes, angles, and lines, using accurate mathematical vocabulary.
Writing:
In Writing, we explored the text Leon and the Place Between by Angela McAllister. They focused on writing character descriptions and created their own imaginative alternative middles to the story. Pupils developed their use of expanded noun phrases, began organising ideas into paragraphs, and learnt how to punctuate direct speech using speech marks.
Reading:
This term, Year 3 continued reading Varjak Paw by SF Said, focusing on answering questions that develop inference, prediction, retrieval, summarising, and sequencing skills. Pupils also explored the characters and their relationships to deepen their understanding of the story.
R.E:
This term, Year 3 learned about Prophecy and Promise. They explored different parts of a church, such as the altar, pulpit, and baptismal font, learning their significance in Catholic worship. Pupils discovered why Catholics attend Mass, understanding it as a time to listen to God’s word, receive Communion, and come together as a community. They also discussed how Mass reflects the promises made by God and the fulfilment of prophecy in the Bible.
Science:
This term, we continued learning about animal nutrition and the skeleton system. They explored how animals eat and the role of bones in the body. Pupils developed scientific skills by classifying animals based on their diets and types of skeletons.
