Term 5

Writing - In writing this term we will be working hard to culminate our writing skills to produce a range of long pieces of writing. We will be exploring the picture book 'Tuesday' by David Wiesner to inspire our creativity. Within this unit or work, the children will be producing an informal letter, a narrative to match the pictures, a diary entry, eye witness report for what had happened on that fateful night as well as a newspaper report to report on what happened the week after with the flying pigs. We will then be writing biographies about people who inspire the children and a persuasive letter to persuade Mr Hamlen to let us build a legacy garden on the school field.

Maths - In maths this term we will be focusing on preparing for SATs. We will be sitting mock SATs tests to ascertain what is most important to revise. We will then be doing daily maths revision based on this with a focus on arithmetic. Children will also be working in smaller groups to focus on more individualised areas of need.

Reading - In reading lessons this term, we will also be pareparing for our SATs assessments. To do this, we will be revising the core reading strands: inference, direct retrieval, prediction, explaination, vocabualary and summarising. Practising these skills will help the children to become more confident with accessing and understanding texts as well as preparing them for the variety of question types they will encounter during the assessments.

Science - This term, our science topic is all about living things and how we group them. Children will learn what makes something an organism and explore the seven life processes shared by all living things. They will investigate the characteristics of vertebrates, invertebrates, plants, and micro-organisms, and learn how to classify them using simple keys. We’ll also discover the work of Carl Linnaeus and how his ideas still help scientists today.

History - This term in history, we’ll be exploring the lives and legacies of significant historical figures. Children will study the features of banknotes and use them to make inferences about people from the past. They’ll research a range of influential individuals and discuss what made them important. By the end, pupils will be able to explain why certain people are remembered and what impact they had.
