Year 5 Learning Synopsis – Term 6
This term, Year 5 pupils will engage in a vibrant and enriching curriculum that supports academic growth, creativity, and personal development as they prepare for their transition to Year 6.
English lessons will focus on fairy tale writing for different audiences, encouraging pupils to explore tone, structure, and language to retell and adapt stories creatively. In addition, pupils will develop their persuasive writing skills through the creation of a formal letter and a newspaper report, learning how to present balanced arguments and influence readers effectively.
In Mathematics, the emphasis will be on identifying and addressing gaps from previous years. Pupils will revisit key concepts in number, calculation, and measurement to reinforce their understanding and build fluency.
Religious Education (RE) will centre around the season of Pentecost and learning about other faiths. Pupils will explore how the Holy Spirit inspires Christian life and how different religions express belief and worship.
In Geography, students will investigate the question: Would you live in the desert? They will explore desert biomes, climate, and how people adapt to life in extreme environments.
Science will continue to build investigative skills as pupils explore mixtures and separation, learning about reversible and irreversible changes through hands-on experiments.
Design and Technology (DT) will focus on structures and buildings, with a particular emphasis on bridges. Pupils will design and test models, learning about strength, stability, and engineering principles.
Physical Education (PE) will develop coordination, agility, and teamwork through tennis, encouraging active participation and skill progression.
In PSHE, pupils will begin their journey of transition to Year 6, reflecting on their achievements and preparing for the changes and opportunities ahead.
