Term 2

Year 6 – Term 2 Overview

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are excited to share an overview of our learning for Term 2. The children have continued to show great enthusiasm and maturity in their learning, and we look forward to another productive and inspiring term together.

Reading for Enjoyment
Our new class text is The Girl Who Stole an Elephant by Nizrana Farook. This thrilling adventure story will help us explore themes of courage, friendship, and justice while continuing to develop our reading fluency, comprehension, and discussion skills.

Writing
This term, our writing focus is on adventure. Using our class text for inspiration, we will:

  • Write detailed setting descriptions using figurative language to create vivid imagery.

  • Develop our research and report-writing skills, producing factual and well-structured non-fiction texts.

Mathematics
In Maths, we are building on our previous learning through a range of topics, including:

  • Multiplication with area

  • Geometry – Angles

  • Geometry – 2D Shape and Perimeter

  • Addition and Subtraction with Statistics

  • Fractions
We will continue to apply our reasoning and problem-solving skills across all areas.

Geography
Our focus this term is Populations. We will investigate how and why populations change, exploring the factors that influence where people live and how communities grow over time.

Science
In Science, we are exploring Pathways of Light. We will investigate how light travels, how shadows are formed, and how our eyes enable us to see.

Religious Education (RE)
In RE, we are deepening our understanding of the importance of prayer and the role of the saints as models of faith. As we move closer to Christmas, we will also reflect on the season of Advent and its significance in preparing for the birth of Jesus.

Thank you for your continued support.
We are so proud of the positive attitude and effort the children continue to show in all areas of their learning. Please keep encouraging regular reading at home and engagement with homework tasks—it really makes a difference. We look forward to a wonderful term ahead as we journey together towards Christmas.
