Term 3

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are delighted to share an overview of our learning for Term 3. The children continue to approach their learning with enthusiasm and resilience, and we are looking forward to a rich and inspiring term ahead.

Reading for Enjoyment
This term, our reading will be centred around two powerful and thought-provoking texts: The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba and The Wind in the Wall by Sally Gardner. Through these stories, children will explore themes of perseverance, innovation, hope, and courage, while continuing to develop their fluency, comprehension, and ability to discuss texts thoughtfully.

Writing
Our writing focus this term is varied and purposeful. Inspired by our class texts and wider learning, the children will:

  • Write a formal letter, focusing on clear structure, tone, and persuasive language

  • Develop a balanced argument, considering different viewpoints and supporting ideas with reasons and evidence

  • Create a vivid setting description, using figurative language to engage the reader and build atmosphere

Mathematics
In Maths, we will build strong foundations and extend children’s understanding across a range of key areas, including:

  • Place Value

  • Addition and Subtraction

  • Multiplication and Division

  • Geometry – 3D Shape and Coordinates

  • Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages

Throughout all topics, children will continue to develop their reasoning and problem-solving skills.

History
Our History topic this term is British History: What was the impact of World War II on the people of Britain? Children will explore life during wartime, including evacuation, rationing, and the experiences of ordinary people, helping them to understand how this significant period shaped modern Britain.

Science
In Science, we will be learning about Living Things: Evolution and Inheritance. Children will explore how living things have changed over time, how characteristics are passed from parents to offspring, and how adaptation helps species survive in different environments.

Religious Education (RE)
In RE, our focus is on Revelation. Children will deepen their understanding of how God reveals Himself through the world and reflect on the ways faith can guide and inspire our daily lives.

Thank you for your continued support.
We are incredibly proud of the children’s hard work and positive attitude. Please continue to encourage regular reading at home and engagement with homework tasks, as this has a real impact on progress. We look forward to a meaningful and successful term together.

We look forward to another jam packed term of learning.
